Strange are the ways of God...

Strange are the ways of God.
But i am no stranger to his ways.

இதனாலதான் "Strange are the ways of God.”

/*ஹிந்துக்களுக்கு நாற்பது சம்ஸ்காரங்கள்னே விதிச்சாங்க*/
Is it for all varnaas?
I think its only for brahmins.
Now a days the problem is people of different varnas dont know what exactly their practices in the spritual community. For example brahmins know what they need to do as per sharstra. But for other varnas they dont know. can you please summarize the practices to be followed as per varnas instead of a generic one?

- kanda mani kandan

//Is it for all varnaas?
I think its only for brahmins.//

no, it is for all hindus.

// Now a days the problem is people of different varnas dont know what exactly their practices in the spritual community.//
it is a real problem. most practices are followed- in many cases more that "brahmins" as far as i know. only they dont know that it is as per shastra. they follow tradition and therefore usually right.

// For example brahmins know what they need to do as per sharstra.//
do they?
of course the sastras are available. vaidyanatha dikshitiiyam compiles all dharma sastras. if you read it you will realise it is common to all. while it is a must for brahmins it not not so strict for others. but what is and what is not a must- that is not easily understood.

// But for other varnas they dont know. can you please summarize the practices to be followed as per varnas instead of a generic one? //

i did make an effort in this direction. most practitioners are wary of me (i guess it is because they are not very confident of their knowledge.) i am yet to find someone who is confident to answer my questions.

so as of now the way is: follow traditions of the family. catch hold of an elder in the family and ask about the practices. //

thanks for sharing views. most welcome to comment on my pages.

please also note that it is only in karma yoga that such differentiation is prescribed.
no such differentiation for bhakti, raja gnana yogas

Ashrama dharma is to do with age related duties whereas Varna dharma is about temperament related duties.
Therefore it is logical to say that the four ashramas are part of anyone’s life and as such all varnas will have their respective duties to be done as per ashrama dharmas
The sanyansis are there in all varnas - so also the vana prasthas.
From the puranaanuru verses on the vana prastha (vadakkirutthal) of Kopperum Chozhan we come to know about vadakkirutthal done by other Paanans too.

Thus these 2 ashramas are same for all.

The differences come only in the first two.
In the first 2 ashramas the samskaras are based on three stages only.
From father to son,
From son to himself and
From son to father.
These three are dealt differently depending on the varna.

The difference is mostly based on the education done by the respective varna and the related life style followed by them.
In the case of Brahmacharyam, education differs from varna to varna.

As such the necessary samskaras are done in tandem with education and the profession from that education.

In this way the number of samskaras will vary from varna to varna.
But samskaars related to ashramas were followed.
As you said, family customs and tradition are also taken as sources of what samskara to follow.

The following post by Dr Arvind Sharma also addresses this issue.
http://arvindsharma.wordpress.com/2007/11/26/14-do-all-var%E1%B9%87as-have-the-right-to-all-the-asramas-in-hinduism/

It seems Manu has given rules for ashramas for different varnas.
